Almost every room of this guest house, located just 30 minutes from central Kyoto at the headwaters of the Kamogawa River, provides scenic views of the valley to compliment the delicious cuisine.
Enjoy a meal of fish and local vegetables complimented by the sounds of chirping cicadas in the afternoon and other insects in the evening as you gaze out across the cool, crystal clear waters of the Kifune River. The freshwater fish from the river are kept in live tanks of pure underground water for a few days to eliminate any strong odors. Even those who dislike fish will enjoy the firm-fleshed, deliciousness of these fish.
Almost every picture of Kyoto Kawatoko you see will be of Hirobun. The Kifune River broadens out in front of this restaurant providing an unobstructed view of the scenery. The Kawatoko, open from May to late September, are a popular addition to the beauty of this area. Grilled sweetfish is the main attraction here. Skewered sweetfish grilled on a bed of bamboo leafs is particularly delightful.
Toriijaya is known for its ochazuke or tea poured over rice and traditional Japanese course meals. Enjoy your meal from the traditional benches, known as shogi, placed directly in the Kibune River as the gentle, cool breeze blows by and the soothing sounds of the river and creaking of the bench treat your ears. You will be served a traditional Japanese course meal of seasonal ingredients carefully prepared to accentuate their deliciousness. We hope you will come away satisfied.
We have been preparing freshwater fish caught in traps the same way since the foundation of this restaurant in the Tempo Era. Located in front of the Tori of Kibune Temple, this restaurant is known as being the first to serve meals on Kawadoko. Fans put out during the Kawadoko season contain a Haiku by Hakugetsu Nomura, a famous Haiku poet, active during the Taisho and Showa Eras. The beginning of Fujiya was when Komajiro Fujiya started using Kawadoko long, long ago. Spend a quiet moment in a whole new world, recalling long forgotten memories.
A restaurant known for its rustic menu of seasonal cuisine made with just-caught freshwater fish and edible wild plants combined with other ingredients. Kibune Beniya proudly serves extravagantly arranged, fine cuisine on Kawadoko. Our dishes are truly supreme.
