Sujiya-cho
The atmosphere of this machiya is slightly different than the others you will see around Kyoto. Everything from the main pillars to the ceiling beams radiate the personality of this merchant's home that was used as a wholesale shop for beans from the Tanba area.
You are greeted by an unexpected spacious interior as you step inside. The blending of modern and traditional Japanese styles is evident in everything from the traditional folding screen and paper lamps to the tea room and western-style bedroom with garden views. Other highlights include the spacious stone bath and hidden loft bedroom.
