What are Kyoto machiya?
Kyoto machiya are traditional townhouses with distinctive Kyoto-style latticework doors and slatted second-story windows. These long homes with narrow fronts extend far into the rear, a shape which earned them the nickname eel’s bed. Kyoto machiya are not only beautiful but also functional homes.

- Relax in an old-style tile bath or those made of cypress wood or stone.
