This machiya, just of a main road in central Kyoto, radiates the true essence of the city. The main door and entrance are decorated in beautiful latticework and a tea room awaits you just inside. Everything from the calligraphy hanging in the alcove to the antique chests evokes a sense of history and time past, even the stairway hidden behind the sliding door, a feature of original machiya.
The garden view from the tea room is exceptionally wonderful, especially at night. When lit up the garden takes on a completely different, mature countenance.
